Five Useful Tips When Writing Articles

July 30th, 2009

Here are some things I’d like to share with you that will be quite useful to you as an article writer.

1. Use keyword variation by adding semantically related words.

Keywords that are appropriate and are spread properly throughout your article (there is really no rule of thumb, I use the exact keyword once in every paragraph or two) you submit help you in reaching your target audience and increase relevant traffic to your site. However, using the exact same keywords again and again in your article can get you in trouble with Google. Google sees excessive repetition of keywords as negatively manipulative. Instead repeating your keywords excessively in your article (which helped 10 years ago), the modern approach is to use keyword variation by utilising semantically related words.
How can I get semantically related words without being a human dictionary or a genius in english language?
Just make use of the tilde “~” character and the google search engine. If your keyword is “dog food”, search for “~dog” (as main keyword in your keyphrase) and “~dog food” at google. All words that are highlighted in search results are semantically related to your keywords, like “pet food”, “breed”, “dog breed”, “puppies”. For a highly targeted quality article, make sure that these semantically related words appear in your article as well.

2. Quality content matters when writing.

Resist the urge to make mediocre articles just for the sake of being able to produce them in large numbers. Quantity alone will not get you the back links that you desire since readers will not patronize your articles if your works afford no appeal and substantiality. Quality content in your article submissions go hand in hand with quantity for achieving your desired number of back links. Article marketing aims to generate and extensively distribute informative, useful content on a niche subject matter with the potential to hold its significance despite the passage of time.

Quality articles that have that sense of timeless importance can build more back links as time passes by. This is because when publishers read such articles, they re-publish them in other websites, which is why it is essential that you write top quality articles.  Maximize the benefits you can get from writing articles by maintaining a good standard quality.

3. Re-purpose your content.

If you already have a website, a PDF, a blog or a compilation of past submitted articles, you have the option to re-purpose any of them into an e-book. Use that e-book as resource box bait or as a gift package you give to people who subscribe to your email list. This is a great way to multi-task your content which actually conserves your time and effort.

4. Put up an email list by linking to a squeeze page from your resource box.

A squeeze page allows you to put up a handy sign up box for a newsletter, a helpful report, an e-book, etc. as gifts. The reader can sign up from there to be on your email list to receive the free gift’s. So link a squeeze page now to build a decent mailing list. You may also decide to put link back to your main site to help in the site’s SEO.
A resource box should use a single link. If you plan to have two pages to link to (e.g. the main site and the squeeze page), make sure they point to the same domain, pointing to different sites in the resource box may easily confuse your readers.

5. Consistency is key.

The biggest question is “How often should I submit to article directories? Is 1 article ok? Should I submit 100 articles daily and avoid sleeping and eating?”. The answer really depends on your goals and time you are willing to spend on it. It does’nt matter whether you submit 1 or 100 articles a specific period, as long as you are consistently submitting articles in this specified period. All efforts will be in vain in an article marketing campaign if you are not consistent. Constancy of effort pays off in the long run so an average number would be to submit at least 2-8 articles monthly, widen your knowledge of article directories and other helpful entities on the net, and remain consistent with the quality of your article content. Consistency is key.

Basic Website Design Tips For Effective SEO

July 28th, 2009

A variety of techniques have been taught about website design and yet we have overlooked the crucial things that determine higher search engine rankings for our websites. The following items are basic SEO techniques that help ensure that your website will satisfy the current need for a search engine friendly web design.

Use Flash Discreetly

Flash is not readily recognized by search engine bots and this certainly will not help your website get on more SERP. Even though it might make your site look remarkable and awesome, Flash does nothing to increase your ranking in search indexes. You may check www.offline-promotion.com for more information. It is actually recommended that you only use a small square or rectangle of Flash in your website. Another disadvantage of Flash is that it causes the website to load longer, which can annoy visitors and thus make them go to other faster loading sites.

While developing your website, it is prudent to choose the best SEO strategy in relation to your business objectives. To cater to your customers who use dial-up connections or broadband, you may opt to put a Flash version alongside your HTML website.

Strategic Use of Keywords Is Essential

Keywords are imperative in designing a website because they are highly needed for conversions. Placing keywords in your website name, title tag, or Meta tag is a mandatory starting point to to draw the search engine results in your favor. Keywords in your website name immediately inform the visitor what to expect from your site’s content which may hold his interest. It cannot be said enough just how important keywords and correct keyword placements are in promoting your site for better search engine ranking.

Never Overuse Keywords

Keywords should be used wisely, in moderation, and with caution. Placing too many keywords or repeating the same ones over and over again might cause your website to be labeled as spam so it is highly advisable to avoid making a “keyword-rich” website. All keywords must be placed strategically and with reason on your web site to increase you site’s search engine rankings. See more details at www.seo-prediction.com.

The ALT Tag Advantage

There are Internet users who cannot download pictures or images from websites. This is where the ALT Tag comes in. Another effective SEO tool to consider in web design is the ALT Tag, whose chief purpose is to give the site viewer a concise description of graphics or an image on a webpage. These short descriptions, written in text, are readily recognized by search engine bots thus helping your website to become more search engine friendly.

Get Your Twitter Message Across In 140 Characters Or Less

July 26th, 2009

Twitter messages can be up to 140 charaters long (or short depending on how you look at it ;) ) and its a good idea to use up all 140 characters in a content rich tweet or at least to come as close as possible to this limit.

Believe it or not, there are people who actually take character maximization quite seriously when it comes to making a tweet. Making the most of the 140 characters in a tweet is a skill that might even actually become handy. Read on to find out the most helpful tips in maximizing your 140 characters in tweeter.

1. Special Symbol Characters
Special symbol characters are now accepted on Twitter. “Twitter keys” is an application that allows Twitter users quick and easy access to special symbols. Smilies and other special symbols can actually be used to symbolize phrases or ideas at the convenience of using a single character. Visit sites like TheNextWeb to get the “Twitter keys” tweet tool.

2. Shorthand Codes
Otherwise known as tech speaks or leet speak, shorthand codes are another marvelous way to maximize your tweet. Shorthand codes are recommended to save space on a tweet because of their space-saving briefness, and even common words can end up as TY, BRB, RT, and LOL once they are shortened. Twitter shorthands are rather numerous and vary in representing commonly used words and phrases. Look them up on Twitter’s NSFW shorthand list and start maximizing your tweet characters.

3. Do Use Labels
Each time you tweet, you have the option to make use of a label, which is simply a little tag at the start of your tweet (Fomat “Label:”, like Digging:, Info:, etc). This way you will be able to give anticipation or even a sense of mystery to your recipients before they read your tweet. Used as help save character space, a tag can instantly tell your followers what your tweet is all about. Doing so increases the chances of your tweet being re-tweeted ASAP. So go ahead, use a label.

4. Avoid Redundancy
Take away unnecessary details from your tweet and make sure there are no redundant statements in each post. A maximized tweet has to be brief and easy to understand. Eliminate unrelated words that just use up your tweet’s already limited characters.

5. Do Shorten Your URL Always
URL’s are long and take up a lot of space which is why Twitter has added an internal feature on its site that actually allows you to perform URL shortening. This built-in URL shortening service of Twitter really does save you more characters. Other reliable URL shortening services include IS.GD or XR.Com and as an added bonus they can even have your links customized.

6. Say It Simple
Curb the desire to use bigger words when a shorter alternative can be found. Keep the tweet simple always by only using longer words if no other word has the precise same meaning that you wish to convey.
