5 Free Link Building Steps For Your Blog Or Website

September 29th, 2009

If you have a blog or even your own website, priorities sooner or later involve link building. In this article you will be introduced to 5 significant link building strategies. Here they are:

1. Posting quality content on your webpage or blog

The most important step is to post quality content. Interesting and attractive content with no grammar mistake, punctuation or structural errors will help you here. At the same time it should be informative and unique content that your readers will like to read. Other link building activities will not pay you so much as quality content posting, which will help to bring you authentic search engine traffic. This also helps to get you referrals through word of mouth.

2. Link submission to niche directories

In this step you’ll submit your web URL to directories. There is no need to waste a lot of time with this step as directory submission to thousands of directories is not effective anymore. However, I still like to submit my new sites to a couple of selected niche directories which already may bring some traffic or at least act as food for search engine spiders to get the ball rolling.

3. Broadcast your content to other blog owners

You can directly contact other blog owners about your blog content. You can also email your friends or write about your blogs in forums and provide your blog link for them to come and read your blog. This kind of link building is one of the most authentic ways to stir up interest in other like minded people.

4. Blog networking, exchange and guest posting

You can go through networking sites and exchange links with other blog owners of related websites. You can also ask them if they are interested in an article exchange, where you publish blog posts on their sites and they will publish their content on your blog or website. Social networking sites and free blog networking sites are available online to make your work easier in this case of link building.

5. Article submission to the major article directories

This used to be the number one link building method other than having good content but lost a bit of momentum in favour of publishing articles on niche article sites and blogs. However, posting to the large article submission directories still can work well in regards of link building. You can submit articles in your niche with your links embedded inside your article resource box.

From Content Research To Content Distribution

September 28th, 2009

Search engine optimizers today would probably recommend that website content should be crafted as optimized as possible to stand out of competitor articles. Well researched and written articles still create significant backlinks. Although there is great wisdom in investing in first-rate content, the downside to this belief is that it relies too much on luck that outsiders will immediately link a site once it has great content. This article is a five-step holistic approach towards researching, creating and distributing optimized website content.

Step 1 – Research Popular Topics
Make a thorough online search for keywords that are relevant to your company in Google Trends that are currently at the height of popularity. This heightened attention may be due to seasonal changes or extraordinary events. For example, if your business is into party favors or special event equipment, you will see various changes in demands for different items throughout the year. “Fireworks” would be a hot topic to be searched around the New Year and the Fourth of July. Aggressively target the keywords related to fireworks at around those times of the year.

Step 2 – Research Relevant Keywords
To locate the terms which are relevant to the idea of “fireworks,” make use of the Google keyword tool. The terms you find will be popularly searched during New Year’s or the Fourth of July, as mentioned earlier. By thorough examination, you would probably come across the terms flares, fountains, Roman candles, and sparklers as applicable merchandise to sell.

Step 3 – Research Current Buzz Around Popular Topics
Go to Twitter and search for the keywords that were chosen in Step 2 to find out what your target customers are discussing so that you can glean out content ideas. Select content ideas that are related to keywords from Step 2 since you now know that there is sizeable search demand for them.

Step 4 – Website Content Creation
Begin writing your content and remember to incorporate the Step 2 keywords while being mindful of the things you found out from searching through Twitter in Step 3. For additional helpful information and guides to deciding on a title and writing your article content, visit Digg.com, where popular content and posts are emphasized.

Step 5 – Content Distribution
In this step, settle on what is your actual “distribution” objective for each piece of writing you have made, whether it’s a “How to…” guide, a simple factual list, etc. The following is an example in Website Content Distribution:

Article entitled “New Year Roman Candle Fireworks”
This article should be syndicated to significantly appropriate external sources such as  news related sites or blogs within your niche for it to create important links, to direct targeted traffic as well as to amplify people’s awareness of your brand.

You now know the five steps so it’s time to apply them! Benefit from both great content and proper distribution to boost web traffic, brand awareness, SERP rankings, and profits.

Advantages of Article Marketing

September 25th, 2009

(P.S.: If you already know what article marketing is, what it is good for and this article turns out to be a bit dry for you, skip right to the end, there is a practical tip waiting :) )

Still not making use of Article Marketing to advertise your business for free? Then you are really losing out on profitable shares of your product in the market. In the first place, there is no harm in trying this method. It has already gained a following for its effectiveness at such low cost. Why not try it and see if it helps boost your product sales?

If you still are not familiar with the advantages of marketing through articles then I suggest that you keep on reading. The next section will help you recognize just what you have been missing out in promotional methods.

Often we mistakenly equate immediately that a successful marketing technique means forking over huge amounts of cash. This is certainly untrue with article marketing. Through its help, you will be able to make contact with a wide base of potential buyers for your service or product minus the heavy bill.

The fact that article marketing online utilizes search engine optimization via keywords assures you that the people who end up reading your articles are reading them with a purpose. They did not randomly come to read your article advertisements. Once they submitted the relevant words to the search engine and arrive at your website through your result in the search engine, they have definitely been screened beforehand.

Assuming that your article’s content is of top quality, it’s a sure thing that once published online, it will extend to different modes of publication very quickly. Other publication media such as newsletters, ezines, magazines, article collections (general and within your niche) and other websites aside from your own site or blog are available to host your articles. As a result, your product or company will achieve increased publicity which in turn, boosts the chances of more product sales for you. The more often your articles circulate the many venues of publicity, the more likely people will hear more about your business. That, above all else, is the main objective of real advertisement. The more people read about your product/services, the higher the likelihood that they will be persuaded to purchase from you.

Because it hardly costs you a cent to engage in article marketing, the earnings you gain from this method will be genuine profit for you. For every click somebody does on any article of yours to read it, you could potentially earn money from when publishing this article on your blog in combination with advertisements like Google’s Adsense. This is great, considering you put in zero investment. This is why posting several articles per day earns you money aside from product sales. Other modes of advertisements are short-lived and quite limited.

Using certain ads entails having to pay for them on a regular basis for them to continue existing. But with article marketing, you get to market your company’s products/services for no fees whatsoever plus your articles will continuously exist perpetually. No renewals involved whatsoever. The only thing you have to do is continue updating your online content by posting fresh, new articles.

In closing, I would like to share a practical tip with you. Once you submitted your article to directories, niche websites and blogs, magazines and other publications, try to get the publishing URL and submit it to social bookmarking sites like Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit, Mixx and all the other web 2.0 sites for additional exposure (You can use a free tool like socialmarker.com to help you with this task).

Avoid Common Mistakes in Article Marketing

September 23rd, 2009

When you have a business, you really want to provide your clients or customers with the best content possible. The best content translates into valuable and informative articles that will make them stay. There are those frustrated or disappointed customers who will not consider second chances, so in order to retain them in your business, you should satisfy their needs and provide them world class service.

It is really quite possible to commit mistakes in article marketing. These mistakes actually affect your customers or clients. That is why there are certain guidelines and precautions to take that will prepare you and your business to a good launching of Internet marketing.

1) Pick article writers who have proven records in your industry
Many article writers can write articles for your business, but they will not be that very helpful for you because they might provide you with low quality articles that will pull you and your business down. You have to think of your business. You have to work with people that will help your business rise (good marketers); they should be good enough to help you market your products very well with confidence and sincerity.

2) Clear up issues of duplicate content
You can never hide plagiarism. Copying an article and naming it after you is stealing and this is bad for business. There are websites that can detect if the article that you have written is original or copied. For the good of business, you must publish articles that are original and honest. You may look into or use other articles as a guide in writing articles but make sure that you should not steal the words or paragraphs when creating your own article.

3) Publish content frequently and constantly
You should write articles with confidence and post them wisely on your site. Publish articles frequently and constantly and your visitors will return for more. Many people post a couple of articles, then look at their stats and see that they don’t attract any visitors and give up. However also in article marketing, consistency is key. Never post articles twice because this will cause your customers to transfer to other websites, which they may find more interesting. Your website represents your business and your company that is why you should keep your customers coming back for more.

4) Neither short nor long
In making articles, you must consider a length which will not bore your readers while reading your written articles. Readers actually read those kinds of articles that are straight to the point and will give accurate feedback, ideas or opinions about the topics. You must be competent enough in writing your articles and be direct to the point. Explain the topic well in a length which is not too short or too long. Keep your customers’ interest in every word or every sentence that they are reading.

5) Linking to the same resource in every article
Never mention or link to the same websites in your articles over and over again. Readers might find this boring and will detect the “scheme” sooner or later. Try to mix resources you are recommending. Share external resources as well as your own resources with your visitors.

Article marketing may be easy work but it needs discipline, dedication, interest, talent, education, and passion. Writing is self-expression. Your write-ups will represent you as a writer, so devote yourself to making your writing effective for your business.

Article Marketing And Business Success Online

September 21st, 2009

One of the best and most cost effective methods to market a business is through article marketing. This kind of marketing is easier than any style of advertising because it is readable and generally faster to process than other marketing approaches. As I see it, there are only 3 hurdles to take:

A) Preparation: You will need a clear understanding on which topic you want to write about and which keywords you want to target. Submitting articles that are not optimized for your main keywords are a waste of time and resources. You can get a lot of keyword ideas by using Googles Keyword Search Term Suggestion (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal)

B) Creation: If you are a writing talent, creating articles will appear natural for you. Otherwise you can as well outsource article writing to professionals. You can find quality, low-cost writers at freelancer sites such as http://www.getafreelancer.com

C) Submission: Once creating your article, you must submit it to some article directories, newsletters (ezines) or you can publish it on your blog.

There are several reasons behind why article marketing is indeed beneficial in my eyes. Here are some strategies to consider in order to make article marketing truly effective:

1) If articles are readable or audience friendly, they will be easy to  understand and catch the attention of the audience. It must be simple yet informative. You must also write articles by heart, an article that is based on your interest and expertise.

2) Set a certain goal when writing articles. If the readers will like what you have written, they will come to you and seek your advice. They will consider your opinion reliable and important. This fact will give rise to your effectiveness as a writer.

3) Advertise your articles very well and also yourself as well. You may write a simple autobiography as a writer that will help readers understand you too. You should provide a resource box which will introduce you briefly and lead to your other websites or blog links.

If you use all these suggested strategies, your article marketing effective will be effective. You will notice that you will get more readers or customers as long as you keep submitting quality articles to your target audience. This is a truly satisfying strategy that will help you promote your business well.

Search Engine Optimization Guide for Beginners

September 18th, 2009

When developing a new website or blog, you must choose between hiring a search engine marketing company or practically do the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) on your own. Managing your website’s SEO requires knowledge of several guidelines. The following tips will help you succeed in your SEO.

Research Keywords Thoroughly

Internet users often look up information via search engines. Therefore, you must think of the keywords and phrases that would most likely lead viewers to your site. Think of keywords that simultaneously cater to the needs of people searching for particular information and yet are related to your site content. However, don’t overuse keywords since this might cause your site to be regarded as spam by the search engines, lowering your site’s rankings on the search engine result pages (SERP).

Do Use Meta Tags, Title Tags and Captions

Meta tags, title Tags, and captions are usually found in webpages, graphics and other images to describe website content. Search engine bots cannot read graphics and rely instead on these tags. Conversions need keywords to work so put keywords in tags also. These tags and captions should be placed strategically for maximum SEO success.

Don’t Use Flash Animation

Flash animation takes a long time to load; impatient site visitors will most likely leave for another site because of this. Also, contents in HTML, .pdf, and others are more easily recognized by search engines than Flash. You may embed Flash into HTML frame to solve these problems.

Don’t Ignore Your Site Analytics

As your website’s suggestion box, site analytics evaluate your visitors’ wants and tell you who your target audience should be. This software analyzes your viewers’ profile and tells you how to find them. It will also tell you whether your website’s content meets their needs or not.  A good free analytics tool I recommend is Google Analytics.

Do Use Social Media

Popular social networking sites (like Facebook, Twitter, etc.) are forum venues where you can meet and communicate on a more personal level with online customers. Associate your site with such social media and get more site exposure.

The Need for Search Engine Optimization

What SEO basically aims to do is to get your site on to the list of webpages that are the result of search engines looking for specific information. This works well in making your site gain popularity and exposure.

SEO techniques are categorized as On-page or Off-page. Making variations in the HTML code or placing a site map file are some methods of On-page techniques since these methods are implemented within the website itself. Making links to your site is an Off-page method.

As a website manager, know the reasons behind successful search engine marketing. Your goal is to get your site on to indexes from search engines, the higher the ranking, the better. Keep modifying your site’s content and code following search engine rules to increase your site’s chances of getting into the SERP.

See what techniques work best for you and reap the benefits from a properly optimized site through effective SEO.

9 Faulty SEO Strategies To Avoid

September 16th, 2009

The following are the top 9 faulty SEO strategies that all web designers and developers should avoid:

Using “Click here” or “Learn more” as the linking text is non-descriptive for web spiders. Be more specific with a topic/keyword in your link anchor text but avoid using the exact anchor text ubiquitously in your site. It’s sometimes seen as search engine spam.

Theme Design Versioning
When designers version their site’s theme design into sub level folders and forward the visitor to the new folder, this will likely make you unable to find backlink counts, even lowering your ranking. It’s the result of continually altering the main root location.

Flash Menus
Flash menus in sites, especially those menus that fade-in and are animated, are invisible to search engines. The links in the flash menu cannot be followed by a spider which isn’t good if you want your site to rank in search engine indexes.

Flash and Image Content
Embedding valuable site content (e.g. target keywords) in Flash and images make it impossible for web spiders to read the text since they browse more effectively site text.

Using a Splash Page
This happens when a website simply puts a “Click here to enter” link with just a big banner image on its homepage. It prevents spiders from putting your site’s internal pages in the search engine index because of no suitable linking structure for them to follow. Instead, include links to relevant pages and target keywords in your homepage.

Overuse of Ajax
Ajax features used for site navigation are not advisable. Its address URL cannot reload making visitors unable to send their friends the page they are on. Also, the content of ajax is dynamically loaded making it non-spiderable and thus cannot be indexed by search engines.

Not Using the Image Alt Attribute
Properly describe each of your images in the alt attribute because it’s what blind web users and web spiders comprehend and read. Good image alt attributes get you higher index rankings from search engines so describe images effectively.

Unfriendly URLs
The URL should be friendly for the sake of both your human audience and search engines. http://www.yourdomain.com/efrgy654/go.php?hgaksjdf&p=ddfznvb4 can be translated to easily readable URLs using mod rewrite. Your keywords should appear in your URL, so you get better index rankings.

Frequent Title Tag Mistakes
• Avoid using title tags that are all alike or similar with each other to get higher search engine index ranking. Do use one of a kind <title> tags with target keywords for your webpages.
• Don’t exceed the 65 character limit in posting titles since you risk getting your title cutoff. Search engine indexes only use your title tag for the link heading.
• It is a faulty SEO strategy to make repetitive use of keywords in title tags, since it might be put down as spam by search engines.

The next time you are designing your website, remember these tips and enjoy better SEO results.

The Big Article Marketing Strategy Paper

September 14th, 2009

If you really want to promote your site very well and earn publicity in order to advertise your product and business, then you have to engage in search engine optimization and copywriting content.

There are many ways to promote your business, but the very first thing you should recognize is that you should know the advantages or benefits you can get out of article writing. There are two ways; you may promote your own website while allowing other products to be promoted as well. The other way is finding a website where you can place your product and promote it on that website without placing your real name on it.

Once you posted your article, there is no way that you can make any changes in it. That is why before posting your articles you have to be sure and confident of the article that you are about to post. One way to increase your credibility is that you have to have your own field of specialization. You have to be smart enough in writing good articles, bringing out special topics to interest readers and clients. If you fail to do this, it will decrease your opportunity to optimize well your product in all search engines and this will push your business down.

You do not have to be technically good with grammar and be an expert at language to consider yourself as an effective writer in article marketing. All you have to do is to post your articles in hundreds of article directories for them to be seen by many who will grab the chance to read them.

Prioritize high-ranking websites for good search engine optimization and avoid re-posting of same articles.

Avoid writing articles that are too long. It would be much better if the article you posted is readable and informative even if it is short. In addition to that, articles should have an interesting subject to catch the reader’s attention.

Do not write on topics that are not your passion, field, or writing because it would be difficult to write on something that you are not interested in. This will actually mark down your credibility as a writer. You will be better off if you stick to your field of interest.

Lastly, your article must be for easy reading. The choice of keywords must be simple but can maximize search engine optimization.

How to Make Use of Article Marketing Strategies:

Affiliate marketing can be a good program to involve too because this will promote several goods and products even if they are owned by different owners.

But how can it attract so much web traffic?

Article marketing is the best answer. This is done by writing articles about your product. This article can be attached with backlinks and must be submitted to article directories. There are times that article directories will not recognize backlinks. For this instance, you can provide the address of your website.

When someone tries to look up for something in an article directory by writing a keyword, the query will bring out your article. And if the article you have written is found to be interesting and useful, the reader will follow back to your website and goes on to merchant sites. This is not only the perfect way to promote affiliate links but also a cheap way to promote your product.

Confusion strikes when you lack ideas of what would be the next best topic to write. This is indeed tough for a writer.

Here are some tips:

Broadly, there are four categories:

• The List Article:

The most common type of article found on the internet, it is the easiest to write as well. All it needs is putting together a bunch of associated information. Examples of such type of articles can be -
• “5 Home Care Tips for Glowing Skin”
• “10 Ways of Reducing Your Carbon Footprint”
• “100 Places You Need To Visit In Your Lifetime”

These types of articles have three essential parts -
1. An introduction
2. Short paragraphs of a minimum of 2 lines each describing the various objects that your article addresses.
3. A short conclusion.

• The “How to” Article:

This is the most interesting type of article as it describes how to make something new. Everyone likes to experiment once in a while, don’t they?

These kinds of articles are generally of the form -
1. “How to Rekindle the Romance In Your Marriage”
2. “How to Make Paella At Home”
3. “How to Prolong the Life of Your Desktop Computer”

• The Review Article:

What would you do if you were to buy a new moisturizer launched by a renowned cosmetics brand? There are some who will rush to buy it simply because of the brand; but most would want a second opinion, a kind of a review. And people are looking for alternative opinions all the time. As such, the widespread popularity of review articles does not come as a surprise.

The essential issues that need to be touched upon by review articles are:

1. The USP (unique selling point) of the product. What results does it promise?
2. How much of that claim does it fulfill?
3. Are the benefits worth the cost? And if so, who can be the prospective buyers to benefit from this? Make sure that whatever way you choose for writing review articles you adhere to these three guidelines.

• The Round Up Article:

This is also a simple kind of article writing. All you need to do is to consult various sources or experts and provide an overview of a situation. This is kind of a general deduction made on the basis of certain given parameters – like general remarks, facts, arguments and judgments. It’s kind of a rounding up piece.

Now that you have the idea, you may now start to use your creativity to look for many topics. Try to explore and be more adventurous on many topics. Good luck.

Why Article Writing Is Relevant For Niche Marketing

September 10th, 2009

Now that search engines have imposed stricter rules in terms of filtering out website content, article writing has increasingly become popular. Search engines now disregard commercial content along with advertisements that pose as “content” when ranking websites. What matters most to search engines is relevant, informative content so you must have that in your website if you want your site to get better SERP ranking.

Through article writing, you are giving the search engines what they are continually looking for: good content. Meaningful content through article writing is what individuals who are searching the net are hunting for. For the article writer, article writing published on the net enables him/her to be recognized for his/her talent. You have to agree that article writing is that relevant to so many other people.

In relation to niche marketing, what can article writing contribute? To start off, let us define niche marketing. It is marketing tailored to accommodate the needs of a minor group of people (a niche) instead of the massive needs of many. To illustrate what a niche market is, we can use as examples such a specific type of sports enthusiast, a specific kind of dancer (hip hop, ballroom, etc.), or a specific kind of cook.

Such niche markets cannot make use of traditional methods of mass web marketing like traffic generation programs, banner ads, or classifieds simply because they are not that effective. These mass advertising methods are used more successfully when the product to be promoted has wide market appeal, especially if you are considering the aspect of expenses.

The niche marketer needs to think of other ways to attract potential customers. If he/she already has a web presence and is a supplier of a certain product/service aimed at niche customers’ needs, then he/she can use article writing. For this to garner successful results, he/she has to come up with article content that will spark the interest of niche customers. Articles must incorporate relevant information in their text, information that the niche customer will be unable to find anywhere else.

The main important thing to remember when writing niche market articles for better web presence is to write high quality articles. A niche customer will only want to visit your site to read what you have to say if and only if your articles provide useful information about their niche. Your articles should give off a tone that you are an exemplary expert in that particular niche. Make that reader want more of what you have to share about their need so that they’ll come back for more. To make them come back for more, the most effective way is to bring to them top quality info at the very beginning.

If you are a niche marketer, then I highly suggest you start writing articles for submission to authoritative article directories TODAY. Keep a high standard in article quality and you’ll have a winner of a website from all the web traffic your articles will create.

Is Your Website SEO Proof?

September 8th, 2009

Most website owners realise sooner or later that they need to add fresh content to their website on a regular basis in order to have any chance at a top 10 ranking.
So many site owners aim at creating or buying content to add to various sections of their website in an attempt to satisfy the search engines.
In most cases it lasted for a few weeks and was abandoned because it really takes a lot to create good content on a daily basis. Unless you were smart and integrated WordPress, Joomla or some type of content generating application early on, you may have pages all over the place and this means you may also have internal navigation issues causing problems with the robots when they try to crawl your website. If the bots cannot find your pages or get stuck in a loop as a result of poor navigation then any work could potentially be a waste of your time and money.

Run Xenu (a free tool) on your website to be sure this isn’t the case. This will give you a detailed overview of your websites navigation and if you have any problems with your internal linking structure. It will also notify you of any redirects or errors in linking, particularly any 302 redirects or 404 pages that are being returned throughout your entire website. You want to identify any adverse navigation problems that it finds. 302 redirects for instance are frowned upon by Google but are often left in place whilst working on a site. If you are getting 404′s you’ll be able to identify and fix these.

File not found errors

Not found errors could be pages that have been moved or replaced, or even renamed. You may have internal, or even worse, external links pointing to these pages and these linking pages could have a significant impact on your rankings.

URL time out

URLs that time out are also an issue that needs to be resolved. If the Googlebot can’t get to the page then any pages beyond this page, and anything on the page may not be indexed. If this is the case then Google will rely on cached versions or whatever they were able to crawl the last time they were able to crawl the page. This could potentially cause ranking problems because its stale content or content that cannot be verified as being relevant to the backlinks pointing at the page.

Unreachable URLs

Unreachable URLs are internal and external links pointing at a page within your website that cannot be reached. These are links from external sites that someone was nice enough to put up for you to your internal pages, but you moved the page or they may have misspelled the URL. In this case you could a) either contact the site owner and notify them about the issue or b) create the page relevant that has been linked to or c) add a permanent 301 redirect and any Page Rank or authority it has will be passed onto the new destination page.

Make sure to check your website frequently for file not found errors, unreachable and timed-out URLs and fix these issues on a consistent basis.
Google likes to see a lot of movement on your website and will reward you for keeping your website up to date and healthy.
