How To Optimize Your Page Titles For Traffic And SEO
Optimizing your page title is a very important factor in achieving search engine optimization. Many visitors would either choose to read further or would just ignore the rest of your page content based on your title. The page title visibly appears in the blue bar on top of your web browser. The title is also the text that appears in search results and is linked to relevant pages. Your page title could either make or break you. That is how important your titles are.
Here are some reminders in optimizing your page titles to help your search engine optimization efforts:
Be serious in your title. Being serious means you don’t take it lightly or take it for granted. Think hardly what you should put into the title tags. Come up with interesting titles that are not only informative but catchy as well. Think of your title as the headline of your page content similar to headlines in your daily newspaper. How often do you find yourself reading an article with a catchy headline and how often articles with boring headlines? Hence, in order to generate more traffic, make sure that your title is competitive the same way your content is.
It must be unique and descriptive about your content. Your title is as important as the content so serious thought must be put into your title. However, your title must not be worded as to contain all the concepts of your content since this would lead to a long title. A general idea coupled with specific adjectives may be sufficient. The way you worded it and how the readers perceived it is what matters.
Keep your titles short and attractive. Your title must not be more than 70 characters (thats how many characters google displays from your title in search engine results) and it should attract attention so that readers would take notice of your page. A long title is a boring title and sometimes connotes an uninteresting or unrelevant content. Hence, keep it short and simple. But of course, remember to make it catchy.
Add keywords to your title. Add main keywords in the title that describe the page content, however do not repeat these keywords in your title tag. Your keyword should appear in the first 55 characters of your title. I personally try to display it at the very beginning of the title and go from there. Also make sure that the content is not keyword filled. A page full of keywords is not only redundant, it is also boring. Furthermore, the search engine robots may consider it as a spam, hence, the page could be discounted in search engines.
Capitalize if necessary. Even capitalization of the first letters, of the words, in the title contributes to the attractiveness of the title. Hence, as simple as capitalization must be taken into consideration.
Now that you know how important working titles are, you must be careful in choosing titles for your content. Titles are the first thing that the visitors would encounter and may actually be a successful sales tool for you. In order to generate more traffic and high page ranking, make your site visible, reliable and important from title to content.
